Burundian medicinal plants
Eight plants documented in Burundi with their attested Kirundi name, their habitat and what ethnobotanical research reports of their uses. Plus two introduced plants often mistaken for the local pharmacopoeia. The page documents, it does not prescribe: no dose, no therapeutic indication.
Burundi, a treasure house
The five provinces of the new territorial division, their protected areas, lakes, waterfalls and sanctuaries, in twenty-four photographs and five fold-out sheets. Text and images from the 2025-2026 annual bulletin of the Ministry of Communication and Media; the full bulletin remains downloadable from the page.
Biodiversity of Rusizi National Park
10,673 hectares of palm grove, marsh and delta at the gates of Bujumbura. The park's three units, the habitats that follow one another from river to lake, the species recorded group by group, the timeline of a status that changed three times, the pressures and the means. Five original illustrations, every figure tied to its source.
Biodiversity of Ruvubu National Park
50,800 hectares of savannah and gallery forest along the river of the hippopotamuses. The four provinces the park crosses, the species recorded group by group, the timeline since 1976, and the toll of the fires of summer 2026 which destroyed a fifth of the park. Six original illustrations.
Biodiversity of Kibira National Park
Eighty kilometres of mountain forest along the Congo-Nile ridge. The layering of the vegetation, the role of water tower between the Congo and Nile basins, the endemism of the Albertine Rift, and a comparison between the forest of 1933 and the forest of today. Six original illustrations.
Multi-hazard risk analysis of Burundi
Floods, torrential rain, strong winds, earthquakes and landslides: what the national risk mapping carried out for IOM says about the country. Nearly 93 million dollars of losses a year, the most exposed communes, the climate of 2050, the rising waters of Lake Tanganyika and the recommended corrective actions, from the State down to clubs. Six original illustrations.
