About
Who we are
An environmental education platform rooted in the realities of Burundi, run by ACAPE Burundi.
Our vision
Generations of Burundians who are educated, responsible and active in protecting their environment, in communities where nature is respected as a common good to be handed on.
Our mission
To inform, train and mobilise young people, schools, households and communities around environmental protection, waste management, adaptation to climate change and biodiversity, through education that is accessible, practical and rooted in local realities.
Our valuesWhat guides our work▾
Rigour and honesty
Verified knowledge, with no exaggeration and no needless alarm.
Accessibility
Content that everyone can understand and use, including in rural areas.
Concrete action
Every course ends in measurable actions that can be carried out with the means available.
Integral ecology
Caring for the environment goes hand in hand with the dignity of people and solidarity between generations.
Partnership and respect
We work with schools, authorities, parishes and associations — never in their place.
Transparency
We account for our activities and for the use of the resources entrusted to us.
ContextWhy environmental education?▾
Burundi, like many countries in the Great Lakes region, faces serious environmental pressures: a dense population on limited land, soil erosion on the hills, deforestation, solid waste management that is still inadequate — plastic waste above all —, water pollution, and increasingly visible effects of climate change (irregular rains, floods, landslides). These pressures reach daily life directly: health, farming, access to water, the safety of homes.
Against this background, environmental education is an essential lever: it allows everyone — pupil, parent, farmer, trader, local official — to understand what is at stake and to act at their own level, rather than waiting for solutions to come from elsewhere.
Teaching approachLearn · Act · Pass on▾
Learn
Short, step-by-step illustrated modules, suited to each audience, available online as light pages that work on a mobile connection.
Act
Every module ends with practical actions to carry out at school, at home or in the community, with step-by-step sheets.
Pass on
Learners become relays:environmental clubs, door-to-door awareness raising, testimonies shared on the platform.
The approach draws on active learning, on the value of local knowledge and, for those who wish, on the markers of integral ecology set out in the encyclical Laudato Si'.
